Throw The Dice, Wish Me Luck “明月如诗 与国同庆”
On Sept. 27th, Friday, a Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day Celebration was held on campus, with parents invited to join in the festive activities with their children.
In the morning, students gathered for a whole school assembly in the auditorium, themed around “caring”. Our Head of School, Dr. Don, delivered a welcome speech to students and parents, while the Student Council members hosted and organized the event. They introduced the theme of caring, followed by guest speakers — the teacher representative, Mr. Danny, and the student representative, Joanna — who shared their insights and stories with us.
After the assembly, students gathered outside the coffee shop for Chinese cultural activities. Teachers and PSA members set up various booths for students to explore and enjoy, including Dragon Painting, Lacquered Fans, and traditional Chinese games. Traditional Chinese snacks, such as the candied hawthorns (as known as “Bing Tang Hu Lu”), were also available in the cafeteria.
Next, students participated in the Bo Bing (“Throw the dice, wish me luck”) games. The Bo Bing games are a unique tradition in Xiamen during the Mid-Autumn Festival, where local people throw dice in turns and win prizes according to the game rules, celebrating family gatherings.
Children always enjoy playing games, especially when there are prizes involved. Students had a fantastic time with the Bo Bing games. Secondary students participated in a special version of a scavenger hunt related to Mid-Autumn traditions after the Bo Bing games.
As an international school, AXIS respects and celebrates cultures and traditions from around the world. We encourage students to embrace diversity and develop insights into different cultures and backgrounds. Being in China, we naturally value the Chinese culture and language. Students from around the world are required to take Chinese classes, which we offer five times a week. Language serves as a bridge for communication, and by mastering Chinese, our students can gain a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture.
Wishing all AXIS dragons and their families a wonderful Golden Week holiday!
