Child Safeguarding Statement
Aligned with the recommendations of the International Taskforce on Child Protection, we hold ourselves to a high standard of safe recruiting practices with specific attention to child protection. These practices seek to support the employment of the best and most appropriate applicants while deterring unsuitable applicants from applying for vacancies and identifying and rejecting those applicants who should not be working with children and young people.
Applicants to AXIS undergo multiple reference checks and background screening including an FBI background check. Our counselors are dedicated Child Protection Officers.
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
AXIS prioritizes creating a safe and healthy environment for every child. Guided by UNICEF’s Convention on the Right of Children, we endeavor to have every person in the AXIS community feel safe, supported and secure in both our physical and virtual environments. We endorse the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) of which China is a signatory to the Convention, showing commitment to establishing a children’s rights system.
A Proactive School Approach
It is the responsibility of everyone in our school community to ensure that children are supported and protected. We believe that our children have a right to grow in a supportive, caring, and safe environment which includes the right to protection from all types of abuse and other safeguarding concerns. At AXIS, we take a proactive approach to child safeguarding and provide training. We expect all AXIS community members including administrators, faculty, staff, trustees, and volunteers to share this commitment. School personnel are vigilant for signs of any young person in distress and are confident about applying our safeguarding processes to intervene when necessary. The Counseling and Wellbeing program promotes student peer and self-advocacy with physical, social and emotional issues through peer mentoring, social skills curricula, health and wellness classes, and digital safety.
